Three long-neglected historic buildings in downtown Baltimore are being transformed by SM+P Architects into a 66-unit apartment building providing affordable housing to Baltimore’s younger First Responders — with the deliberate intent to bring them back into the city they serve. Currently under construction, Guardian House is one of the most meaningful projects in SM+P’s portfolio: landmark-calibre preservation skills applied directly to community need, demonstrating that historic buildings and affordable housing are not in conflict but can reinforce each other.
