Maryland Golf and Country Club

Back to All Work

SM+P has a long-standing history with Maryland Golf and Country Club, beginning with our founder, Walter Schamu, designing the original clubhouse in 1997. SM+P was hired again in 2019 for the renovation of both the clubhouse and pool house amenities. The clubhouse renovation included relocating and enlarging the bar to be centralized within the expansive dining room. The main dining room was also shifted closer to the golf course to take advantage of the views of the course from within the clubhouse. The renovation also included adding a private formal dining room with temperature-controlled wine rooms to support their wine locker program and renovating all of the circulating public areas and restrooms.

One of the most important features to the club to add as part of the renovation was an outdoor dining amenity. The design team studied many options on how to integrate this into their existing space. The solution was to add an elevated, covered outdoor dining addition off of the existing clubhouse with direct access from the new bar and dining room. The covered dining area provides beautiful views of the golf course beyond, while also providing a covered area below for golf cart pick-up and drop-off. The outdoor dining features a brick fireplace, lounge seating, and both high-top and low-top seating. The exposed timber-framed addition draws from the existing roof slope and detailing, creating a seamless look between the original clubhouse and the new porch addition.

Along with full design services, SM+P specified, coordinated, and procured all dining and lounge furniture for the club as part of the renovation
