This project resurrected an original and unbuilt clubhouse design developed by the firm Thomas, Parker and Rice at the founding of Gibson Island. Throughout a process of investigation and commentary, SM+P tested those nearly century-old plans against the modern requirements for the current membership. The resulting concept maintained the spirit of the original design while creating a building that provides the functions the Club needs today — an extraordinary piece of architectural detective work that honours the heritage of one of Maryland’s most exclusive private communities.
