Echoing the catacombs of early Christianity, SM+P Architects transformed a storage area in the undercroft of the Cathedral Church of the Incarnation into a columbarium and Peace Chapel. The project required a profound sensitivity to the spiritual purpose of the space — creating an environment for remembrance and reflection within a building of deep religious and architectural significance. Sacred architecture demands a quality of attention that goes beyond the functional: every material, proportion, and detail must serve the contemplative purpose of the space.
