Over the last 20 years, SM+P has maintained a close relationship with the Maryland Club. When the time came to renovate and expand the historic club’s squash and fitness facilities, SM+P began with multiple programming sessions to understand the complex needs of the club. Adding the much-needed fitness space required excavating under the existing squash court while it remained open — a technically demanding operation on a live historic building. The completed project includes two new squash courts, making this the only known squash club in the US with three world-class doubles courts surrounding a full-service bar and lounge. New locker and shower facilities, a squash pro shop, and updated mechanical systems complete the renovation, all reclad to integrate with the adjacent circa 1892 clubhouse.
