Located on a bucolic seven-acre property 60 miles north of Philadelphia, SM+P designed a modern timberframe house and detached garage for a retired couple. The project demonstrates the breadth of SM+P’s residential design capability: the same sensitivity to place and context that guides their Baltimore historic work translates equally well to a rural Pennsylvania landscape. The natural materials, the timberframe structure, and the relationship of the house to its wooded site all reflect a design intelligence that goes well beyond the merely functional.
