In 2015, Ceremony Coffee Roasters — the Annapolis-based purveyor of speciality coffee and professional equipment — engaged SM+P to design their Baltimore flagship in West Mount Vernon, within a former warehouse cafeteria. The 3,000 square foot space was conceived as a bright white shell with Douglas fir accents. Two 13-foot-6-inch blackened steel transaction counters paired with custom millwork form the coffee service area. An adjacent ‘Pro Shop’ displays equipment and goods; at the rear, a glass-enclosed teaching lab hosts guest ‘cuppings’ and barista training for restaurateurs — giving the space a purpose beyond retail that has made Ceremony a genuine part of Baltimore’s coffee culture.
